Adult and Teen Summer Reading

Explore your world this summer with a little help from your local library! Read books and attend programs to earn entries for our end of summer raffle. For every book you read, fill out a book review slip and return to the Adult Reference Desk to earn raffle tickets. Your raffle tickets offer you two chances to win – in our weekly prize drawing and our end of year grand prize raffle!

Thanks to the generous donations from our local businesses, we are offering grand prizes of Kindle Fire Tablets as well as gift baskets donated from our sponsors. Use the raffle tickets you earned throughout the summer to bid on the prize you want the most! To win a raffle drawing, winners must be present at the wrap-up party on Saturday, August 12 at 1:00pm.

Read for Fun with Youth Services

The fun begins when you join the Youth Services summer reading program, READ FOR THE FUN OF IT! All readers through eighth grade are welcome. Pre-readers may be read to by an adult or older sibling. Why not take a look for some enjoyable books and attend some exciting programs because time flies when you're having fun! Book a trip for summer fun and follow these simple guidelines below to participate.

Book some fun!
Register at the Youth Services reference desk beginning Monday, May 22 through Saturday, July 22 and receive a packet of information. At this time choose a gently used book to keep and begin your reading fun. Read any and as many books as you want by Saturday, July 29. Books must be on your reading level and cehcked otu from the Calumet City Public Library. All readers are asked to read a minimum of 5 books during the summer. Write down the title and call number of each book you read. earn one prize ticket for each book. The more books you read, the more tickets you earn so keep reading! Read and have fun!

Take a look and open a book!
After you finish reading your first 5 books, bring your reading log to Youth Services to receive a small prize and add your name to the Bookshelf of Readers. Continue to read during June and July to earn tickets for prizes.

Books + Reading = Fun!
Remember to return your completed reading log by Saturday, July 29. Stop by Youth Services anytime between 10:00 am and 8:30 pm on August 1, 2 or 3, to receive a paperback book and redeem your tickets for prizes. At this time you will receive an invitation to the READ FOR THE FUN OF IT Carnival on Saturday, August 5 from 1:00-2:30 pm. There will be refreshments, games, raffle prizes, and more.

Quick Checklist

  3. After reading 5 books bring your log to Youth Services and add your name to our Bookshelf of Readers
  4. Continue to read books
  5. Return your log by July 29
